An unusual cloud formation caught the last warm light of the day, swirling upward like smoke against the cooling sky. One of those evenings where you just stand there and watch.
I don’t know what kind of cloud this was — it didn’t look like anything in the books. It spiraled upward from the horizon like a column of smoke, but softer, with the sunset light turning it gold and pink at the edges.
The rooftops along the shore were just dark shapes by then. The whole scene had that quality of a painting where the artist got a little carried away with the sky but it somehow works.
I took a dozen photos. This one was the best — the one where the light was just starting to fade but the cloud still held its shape.
